Privacy Practices

Your privacy is absolutely critical to the treatment process. We will never acknowledge your client status to ANY third party or release protected health information with out your explicit consent. Your consent would also be necessary for any interdisciplinary collaboration between your therapist and third parties such as primary care doctors or psychiatrists etc.

We offer secure online sessions using a technology called Theraplatform which is HIPAA compliant to ensure the privacy of your session.

Exceptions

The privilege of confidentiality is suspended when mandated by law, specifically when there is clear, immediate, and serious threat of harm to either you or a third party (e.g., child abuse, dependent adult or elder abuse, suicidal or homicidal intent) or when the legal statutes or a court order requires that confidentiality be breached for the overall good of society.

HIPPA

Since we participate in managed care (Aetna) and also submit out-of-network claims, only at your request, we are considered a covered (HIPAA) provider and are compliant with the guidelines set forth under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996. These guidelines describe your rights regarding your protected health information. “Protected health information” is considered information about you, including demographic information that may identify you and that relates to your past, present or future physical or mental health or condition and related health care services. For more extensive information about HIPPA, please see http://www.hhs.gov/hipaa/for-professionals/privacy/laws-regulations/

We are happy to go over these guidelines with you and answer any questions you may have.
